I'm Martin Horgan and with my partner (wife next month) Jay Kershaw, we have been involved in Dobermanns for many years. Nearly 12 years ago, we bought a brown female for Jay to show, and her quality was such that we both got involved with showing Dobes, and have so far bred 3 UK champions, 2 Dutch Champions, 1 Irish Champion and a European Youth Champion - not bad for beginners - under the kennel name Aritaur.
About 5 years ago, we were introduced to Schutzhund by a friend in the breed, and really thought that there was more to a dogs life than liver. At the same time we checked out Working Trials, but thought that Schutzhund would give us and our dogs more fun.
At that time we were living near Birmingham, and due to the lack of any decent clubs nearby our closest quality club was Severnside Schutzhund Club and in 2002 we joined this club, where I trained two females, but alas one was far too dog aggressive for the sport, and the other had badly injured her ankle to train seriously. We had 2.5 great years at Severnside, but in Jan 2005 we moved to Staffs and this forced a change of club when we joined South Cheshire. By this time, I had a 11 month old male to start training called Aritaur Histabraq (Bracco) and he has proven to be a joy to train, including those sometimes comical dobermann moments.
Bracco was born in Feb 2004. We bred his mother, and title her as a Dutch Champion and also the only UK bred Dobermann to win a Sieger title when she became Europa Yugend Siegerin in Paris in 2002. She was mated to a Russian dog, who is famed all over Europe for producing top quality show dobes, with outstanding characters, and he certainly has his dads character and ability to produce quality pups.
To date, Bracco has qualified Sch I, and in the show ring he has won Irish Green Stars, CACs in Europe and one Best In Show, and he has sired 2 CC winning progeny, and he is only just 3 ..... a true all round Dobermann.
